The Need for a Fisheries and Veterinary University

The establishment of a fisheries and veterinary university in Odisha is a long-overdue move to enhance the state’s fish production and research capabilities. With the current fish production reaching 11.24 lakh tonnes, Odisha ranks fourth in the country. However, the state’s fish production is still far from meeting the demands of its growing population. The state’s fish production is mainly dependent on the traditional fishing methods, which are not only labor-intensive but also environmentally unsustainable. The lack of research and development in the field of fisheries and veterinary science has hindered the state’s ability to adopt modern and sustainable fishing practices. The establishment of a fisheries and veterinary university will provide the state with a platform to conduct research, develop new technologies, and train the next generation of fisheries and veterinary professionals.

The Proposed Aqua Park

The proposed 100-acre aqua park in Sambalpur is expected to be a game-changer for the state’s fish production and research. The park will be built at a cost of Rs 100 crore and will feature a variety of aquatic species, including fish, shellfish, and other marine life. The aqua park will provide a controlled environment for fish farming, allowing for more efficient and sustainable production.
